A
BRIEF HISTORY
Idyllwild Bible Church came into being in
the mid-seventies. It began as a Bible study of
a dozen people meeting in a home. As the study
grew, it became apparent that a church was being
born. With the help of a gifted church planter,
the one time Bible Study now had a name, and its
first pastor.
IBC eventually found a semi-permanent meeting
place at the local Town Hall. In time a new pastor
came. He along with visionary leaders began looking
toward construction of a facility that the church
could truly call its own.
The new facility was completed in 1983 just as
the church was calling Pastor Tim, who has been
with us ever since. We praise God
for His unfailing faithfulness to this church
through the years, and we look forward to the
privilege of continued service so long as He
wills it.
WHY ARE WE AN INDEPENDENT CHURCH?
We understand the New Testament Scriptures to
teach that the churches established by Christ
through the Apostles, were independent. That
is to say, they were free from any outside controlling
entity. The presence of a synod, governing
board, council, or denomination
that exercised
control over local congregations is not in evidence.
Each local church is presented as caring for
its needs and governing its activities. A denominational
governing body may prove helpful to a local church
at times, however, church history and our present
day experience would suggest that such bodies can
also be a liability.
While we are committed to a position of independence
based on the New Testament example, we are also
equally committed to a spirit of inter-dependence
as we are part of the Body of Christ at large.
To that end we seek to cultivate cooperation
and fellowship with other churches whose doctrine
and ministry are committed to the advance of
Christ’s
kingdom.
